PPI

Just about everyone is fed up with receiving cold calls from PPI salesmen. With nearly 1,000 companies telephoning, texting and e-mailing every day, it is becoming more than a nuisance. Firms are now moving into the areas of accidents and medical malpractice so the nightmare will go on – and there is little you can do to stop it. The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is supposed to make sure that once you have registered, you won’t be bugged by any unwanted calls, but these companies either ignore the rules or operate from overseas, particularly, India and UK legislation doesn’t work there. In order to complain to TPS, you need to know who has called you and from where. If you try to obtain this information from your caller, you won’t get it and ringing 1471 doesn’t work either because the number will be automatically withheld.

These calls are unlawful and the organisation which has the power to stop them – the Information Commissioner – is a complete waste of time. Despite receiving 10,000 calls in a year, the Information Commissioner has managed to issue one warning and no prosecutions. We wonder what on earth they do in Wilmslow every day. This is one area that is really upsetting everyone and they do nothing. We wonder what they are for. What is the point of having them? They botch everything they touch – everything from Google’s unlawful gathering of personal data to the routine loss of very serious personal data by the NHS. If they do anything of importance, we have yet to discover it apart from draw nice salaries, pensions and fringe benefits, of course.
