Definitions
Complaints
Complaints to the ICO regarding the application of data protection legislation.
Casework
The work the ICO does to resolve a case. Because it is possible to reopen a case, cases may have multiple pieces of casework done on them.
Casework created
These figures show casework received. Some cases prepared for handling are later identified as cases to be removed from the ICO’s casework management system. These cases are removed from the figures as soon as they are identified, so the figures shown here may be updated in future reports.
Casework finished
These figures show casework that have finished.
Caseload
These figures show the number of pieces of casework in progress at the end of each quarter. Some cases may be identified as ones to be removed from the ICO's casework management system, meaning that the caseload figure could change over time.
Year to date
Performance information is reported in the financial year, therefore the year to date figures are from April.
Outcomes
These show the outcomes that have been reached as a result of complaint casework finished in the reporting quarter. The definition of each outcome is shown below:
Ineligible/Complaint made too early |
Where the ICO has not received enough relevant information to be able to accept the complaint. This may include complaints that have not yet been investigated by the organisation concerned. |
Complaint not progressed |
The ICO has not been able to pursue the complaint. Examples include where the organisation processing personal information is based outside the UK, where the ICO has been able to address the issue by providing advice, or where the customer wishes to withdraw their complaint. |
Assessment made-compliance likely |
The ICO concludes that an organisation is likely to have complied with their obligations under the DPA. |
Assessment made- compliance unlikely |
The ICO concludes that an organisation is unlikely to have complied with their obligations under the DPA. |
